Now: a woman is viciously stabbed to death in the upmarket kitchen of her beautiful house on the edge of the marshes. To read more about the site or if you want a graphic to link to us, see the about page for more details. Struggling to find a killer that is hiding in plain sight, while navigating small town politics and pagan rituals that muddy the waters, romance is blossoming between the two tortured souls, threatening to slow down the investigation. Absolutely would recommend for anyone looking for a compelling listen that will leave you adding the rest of the series to your TBR list.

having thought that they were just a way of making money once the ''Hero'' has been established but I will reconsider my views, this one makes sense all I have to do now is rearrange my list so that this book becomes the first then I shall read them all again with more insight into my favourite team of detectives. Ryan has retreated to Holy Island to recover from a tragic case that had a particularly bad effect on his psyche. While the books have been advertised as intense thrillers, they are hardly the darkest psychological dramas in the world. This audiobook can easily be listened to as a standalone, or as the first in the series as at this stage the relationships are all new, the future of Ryan and his team undecided and anything can happen. I very nearly gave up on this on several occasions, as I found the dialogue cringing but, as with all of us crime readers, I did want to know how it all ends.

There’s a serial killer targeting the streets of Newcastle, seemingly picking his victims at random but subjecting them all to the same torturous end. Used to city life and high stress, Harry fears his life will now be spent handing out speeding tickets, finding lost sheep, and directing tourists. I get that the story is based before Holy Island but the way it is narrated, I feel like I am listening to a radio play.

Located in North East England, the island is rich with history and tourists from all over the world visit it with the intention of exploring that history. We understand that not everyone can donate right now, but if you can afford to contribute, we promise it will be put to good use. This book is a prequel to all the rest, and I knew how it would end, that didn't detract from the story. The use of first-person narration to communicate the suffering of the victims and the viciousness of the killer reads more like an attempt to provide self-gratification material to disturbed individuals. With an investigation already underway, Ryan, DS Frank Phillips and DI Denise MacKenzie need to sort through the facts that they know and elim

Because to be honest they go hand in hand, the storyline was epic, the killer on the loose was scary as hell, how was he getting to the victims, and when one is way way way too close to home, well things go a bit crazy. After the birth of her son, Ross wrote the first draft of Holy Island, having been inspired by the atmospheric beauty of Lindisfarne, an island off the northeast coast of England she knew well from childhood. My favourite relationship is between Ryan and Philips, their interaction and dialogue is natural and Philips brings in some wonderful Geordie humour and colloquialisms.I played detective alongside Ryan, recently moving from London, in a position which a lot of people resent him for. After visiting Lindisfarne, the author was so thoroughly impressed by the atmosphere of the Island that she couldn’t believe no one had written a crime thriller set on the location.
